The Threat: There are 10 million Atrial Fibrillation (AF) patients in the US facing a 5X increased risk of stroke. Over 90% of these stroke-causing blood clots originate in the Left Atrial Appendage (LAA).
The Challenge: Left Atrial Appendage Closure (LAAC) is a promising one-time, non-pharmacological solution to reduce stroke risk in AF patients. Current LAAC implants are standardized, prefabricated, fixed-frame, and metallic. However, real human patients display infinitely variable anatomy composed of soft, fragile tissues.
The Consequence: This patient-device mismatch can result in poor fit and incomplete sealing, local tissue damage and delayed healing, and complex, resource-intensive clinical workflows.
